New Zealand has a liberal parent visa policy compared to other countries that allow migration. To be eligible for a parent visa, you should meet the centre of gravity requirements. You should also be sponsored by an eligible New Zealand resident adult child.
Centre of gravity requirement is met if you have no dependent children and the number of your children living in New Zealand is equal to or greater than the number of children living in any other country lawfully and permanently. If you have dependent children, then the number of your dependent children must be equal to the number of adult children living in New Zealand. There is also a requirement that the number of your adult children living in New Zealand must be equal to greater than the number of children living in any other country lawfully and permanently.
Your sponsor must have been living in New Zealand for at least three years in New Zealand as a permanent resident or citizen and must have spent a minimum of 184 days in each of the three-year period. There is also a minimum income requirement now. You sponsor must also undertake to provide financial support and accommodation for a certain years. The income of the sponsor’s partner/spouse can be added to the sponsor’s income to meet the income requirement. Even if you have independent means of income, your sponsor still have to meet the minimum income requirement. The current minimum income requirement is NZ$ 29,897.92 per annum.
